The Platteville Public Library was started in 1916 by the Platteville Women’s Club, which first opened in the Town Hall in 1917 with 229 donated books. The first library building was built in 1932, which is now the site of the Platteville Historical Society and Pioneer Museum.
In 1992 a new library was constructed next to the old library at 504 Marion Ave. It was 4,000 sq. ft., and was thought to be sufficient for many years. The town soon outgrew the building and a 3,500 sq. ft. addition was completed in 2002. It is a homey, welcoming center of the town, and houses over 32,000 pieces of material available to the community. The library boasts many fine collections of materials: audio books, mysteries, inspirational fiction, paperback novels, new releases, manga novels; blockbuster, educational, and older movies in VHS and DVD format; and a comprehensive children’s collection are just a few of the highlights.
The Platteville Public Library is a member of the High Plains Library District. The library staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and always willing to help you locate materials and requests.
